2019 is proving to be the year of the Mini. With the very first example rolling off the production line in 1959, that makes it 60 years of production for one of the most iconic vehicles the world has seen. Transcending more than just the automotive world, the Mini has become a powerful symbol for pop culture. From the innocent shenanigans of Mr Bean to arguably the most effective heist vehicle of all time in The Italian Job, the variety of ways in which the Mini has made its mark around the world is testament to its design and engineering.
Perhaps even a greater accomplishment is the fact that last week the 10 millionth Mini rolled off the production line in Oxford, England. Waiting at the end of the line was one of the very first examples built back in 1959, as well as a production plant full of proud employees who had gathered to mark the occasion.
Appropriately, the 10 millionth car to wear the Mini badge was a green and black limited-edition 60th anniversary model sporting heritage stripes, 17-inch alloys as well as various other goodies all paying homage to various models from yesteryear. Available as a 3-door or 5-door hatch in both Standard and Cooper-S spec (this particular model was a 3-door Cooper S) the 60-year models have proved incredibly popular with customers already throughout Europe, the US and Australia where it is being sold.
The small but mighty Mini has gone through a number of changes over its lifetime-most notably BMW’s acquisition of the company leading to a completely new design and car in 2000. Although significantly updated from the original specifications, BMW’s take on the classic still kept the soul of the original and it has proved to be a much loved success over the past 19 years.
FitMyCar offers a great range of products and accessories for each of these models such as the Cooper, Countryman, Paceman and Clubman. With tailored floor mats, dash mats, bumper protectors and more available, owners are able to keep their Minis looking and feeling better than when they left the factory. For those who prefer the classic, FitMyCar even offers products for the original Leyland model.
